Toy Story Character Birthday Cake

Character cakes can be a double edged sword!

On the one hand they can be fairly stressful as they take a lot of concentration & can take a really long time to make. This is because all the character toppers are very intricate & have to look as close as possible to the really thing in order for them to resemble the characters required.

On the other hand they are very rewarding once completed & there is nothing quite like seeing a little boy or girl's face light up with joy when presented with all their very favourite characters of the moment sitting upon a great big delicious cake. Not to mention their delight when they realise they are all completely edible!

This cake had three layers of 'Killer Chocolate' (moist chocolate fudge sponge cake) with chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream sandwiched in-between them. As always homemade marshmallow fondant (which tastes great compared to standard fondant) was used for covering the cake & for all decorations & characters.

I used the writing from the Toy Story 2 movie as inspiration for the happy birthday message, name & age on the cake.

I was especally happy with Buzz Light Year which was fantastic as I was aware that this was the boys favourite character.
